Proxima Fusion has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Free State of Bavaria, German electric company RWE, and Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) to build a commercial stellarator fusion power plant in Europe. Based in Munich, Proxima was spun out of IPP in 2023.

The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) announced that it recently has achieved a new record for ion current density for neutral particle heating at its ELISE (Extraction from a Large Ion Source Experiment) experimental testing facility in Garching, Germany. ELISE is being used to test neutral beam injection (NBI) systems that will be used to heat the plasma of the ITER fusion experiment in France.

U.S. scientists are getting funding to carry out seven research projects at two major stellarator fusion energy facilities located in Germany and Japan, the Department of Energy announced on June 8. A total of $6.4 million has been allocated for seven research projects with terms of up to three years.
